Over the past few weeks my playlist has changed drastically,
being over powered by a music genre that I unconditionally adore, Hip Hop. The
reason for the change to my playlist is the quality music that’s coming out
from the US of America the land of music entertainment.
J. Cole, Kanye West and Wale all have one thing in common
top charting albums though many might feel Mr West doesn’t deserve to be thrown
in the mix. Last week marked the first time on the Billboard 200 chart history
that hip hop albums have scored the top three spots for three successive weeks.
Billboard reported that J. Cole’s ‘Born
Sinner’ hit the number one spot, followed by Wale’s ‘The Gifted’ and Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’,
but let’s not forget to mention Mac Miller’s ‘Watching Movies With the
Sound Off’ which is also playing around those rankings.
This is the first time three hip hop albums nabbed top spots
for consecutive weeks on Billboard 200 since 2002, when Eminem, Nelly and Nas
ruled the charts for weeks in a row.
If you’re wonder where Jay-Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ is
standing, well don’t wonder much because Jigga’s latest album is hot on the
heels of the mentioned offerings. It’s expected that Jay-Z’s album will help
continue the success of hip hop by probably wrestling J. Cole’s album for the
number one position in the next coming days.
Should Jay-z take top spot it will be his 13th number one
record to sit on the top of the Billboard 200 chart an accomplishment which
many have failed to reach.
