Box Office: Love in modern South Africa and touchy moments

The movie tells the story of “panel-artist” FanieFourie, a young Afrikaans man who hails from an orthodox family and Dinky Magubane, a modern black girl pressured by her traditional father to get married. Their love sparks when Fanie is dared to ask her out and she agrees if he’ll pose as her boyfriend. Both determined to rid their parents of their expectations their relationship takes a real turn with them developing feelings for each other but soon falls apart. A quirky comedy about love in a modern South Africa, it’s worth watching!


Sleeper’s Wake

After losing his wife and daughter in a car accident 40-something year old John Wraith looks to a small coastal town to deal with his grief but instead finds Jackie, an 18 year old girl battling with the sudden death of her mother in a violent robbery. Their wrong but legal relationship is born of shared trauma and soon spirals into dark wisps of passion and anger. Based on the book written by Alistair Morgan, the movie was featured at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as the Durban International Film Festival.
