HOW I MET CARDI

It was South African Fashion Week Day 3; Motheo Khoaripe a good friend of mine had a few cents in his pocket and decided we’re going to do some retail therapy. Here I was thinking Sandton is where we going to do our shopping. We get off the cab and the excitement builds up, mind you I had no penny in my pocket.
Motheo decides Newtown is our destination where we are going to find something suitable, and Scepticism crept in and I must be Honest I was a bit negative. We get to an open marketplace; all I saw was a lot of buyers like us to purchase clothes. Motheo finds a hotte shirt and a jean which he had to negotiate very hard for and as we kept searching a short bold guy calls me and uttered “this Cardi has a crash on you, so what do you say?” I stared at Motheo and he replied to my stare by saying “Ash Chap take it”. So my broke self I decide to fit it on.

After fitting on the Cardi, I was immediately in LOVE. Motheo pulls his wallet and pays the short bold guy for my new found love. Now Cardi is in my hands and all I can think of now is what’s going to match with my new love... And that’s how I met Cardi, at an Open Marketplace.

Thought I love Cardi unconditionally, but you cannot expect me to stand on one foot now can you?

BEAT BOX: KENDRICK LAMAR RAPS IT LIKE IT IS

The first time I heard of Kendrick Lamar was one Friday night after driving from a friends place to a nightspot. My friend who I was driving with in the car was playing a new fresh sound I had not even heard before. When I asked the friend who’s the artist? he answered with a strange laugh Kendrick Lamar you fool.
Kendrick hails from the rough streets of Compton, California in the United States.

The sizzling hot rapper released his first mixtape titled “Youngest Head Nigga” at the age of 16, with a view that one day he could get the opportunity to share his experience and creativity with the world. Kendrick is Known to have graced his followers with high quality intense Lyrics through songs such as “Rigamortus”, “Kush and Corinthians”, “Ronald Reagan” and “Hii Power”. The lyricist is an absolute beast on the mic and boy oh boy his songs definitely leave an impact. No wonder mega producer and record label owner Dr. Dre scrambled to recruit him.

Kendrick Lamar hitting up a performance

Kendrick to date has worked with some of hip-hops finest names such as Drake, Big Pooh, The Game, E-40 and J. Cole to mention a few. His recent offerings include “Kendrick Lamar EP” which was released in 2010 and “Section 80” his latest project.

A FASHION EYE FROM BENONI

So I remember chilling with a couple faces from across South Africa discussing towns and cities from the country. Me being the only one from Benoni, a town situated East of Johannesburg, tried very hard to defend the town. Did I stand a chance of winning the conversation, well one would think other wise. Guess what unlike that guy from Nelspruit and the other from Rosslyn I did quite well in defending Benoni...

You probably wondering what the small town of Benoni has, let me tell you. Benoni has gave birth to some fab personalities such as Footballer Jabu Mahlangu, business leader and community leader Tom Boya, music sensation Lira, Cricketer Andre Nel, to mention a few. Well the point I am tryna put out is judge Benoni at your own peril because boy oh boy we have many achievers in our town.

Okay enough about Benoni. Todays featured fashion designer is a lady from Benoni Samiksha Lochan who draws her inspiration from her surroundings, past fashion and her passion for Arts.
Samiksha formerly attented Wordsworth High school and is also a fashion and textile graduate from the Durban University of Technology.

Her designs reflect a Modern, edgy and sophisticated look that emphasises a womans silhouette using luxurious fabrics and thus exuding an effortless, timeless and wearable glamour.

The young fashion designer, desires to launch her very own women's contemporary ready-to-wear clothing line, with the intention to use her creativity and abilities to add dimensions of elegance and femininity to the current era. Samiksha is undoubtly one to look out for the future and guess what she's from BENONI.

TECH BITES: Yahoo Appoint Mayer As New Captain Of Ship

Long serving Executive at Google Marissa Mayer has been trusted by Yahoo the struggling technology firm to bring back the former glory days. The Stanford University graduate will surely have her work cut out to turn Yahoo's fortunes around. Marissa was one of those brains responsible for the look and feel of some of the search engines products.

Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20 and was the company's first female engineer.During her 13 years with the company, she was an engineer, designer, product manager, and executive. She also oversaw the layout of Google's famous, unadorned search homepage. In her final years with Google, she was Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services and, before that, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience.

Yahoo! A pioneering Internet company that helped shape the industry in the 1990s, is trying to remain relevant after failing to adapt to changing innovations like sophisticated search technology and social media tools. As Google and Facebook have emerged as Web giants, Yahoo has struggled to create a distinct strategy, even though its audience remains among the largest on the Internet. Now, the company is moving to lay off thousands of employees, in the face of slumping profits and a lackluster stock.

Lets hope Mayer can stop the ship from sinking!!!

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PERFECT CUT
Ozwald Boateng the Fashion Designer of Ghanaian descency, known for his trademark twist on classic British tailor style in the streets of London. He opened his first store on Savile Row, London where he perfects a fine cut. Ozwald was inspired by the immaculate suits his father wore, and at 14 he got a summer job sewing linings into suits.
mentored by Tommy Nutter and with the success of the Paris show in 1994 it enabled him to open his bouquet on Vigo street, South end of Savile Row in June 2002. In 2003 he launched a fragrance line targeted at women who were sophisticated and making moves.

Bernard Arnault, President of LVMH appointed the talented Boateng as creative director of menswear at French fashion house Givenchy. His first collection was shown in July 2004 in Paris at de Ville. After the 2007 Spring Collection he parted ways with Givenchy. Ozwald was later commissioned by John Agyekum Kufuor, president of Ghana, to design and orchestrate a show at the 9th Annual African Union Summit in 2007 held in Accra and the event coincided with 50 years of the Independence of Ghana.

Ozwald recently released his latest collection, in which he relays how a suit tells a mans story.

Added to his success, Ozwald designed and tailored costumes for films including: Hannibal, Oceans Thirteen, Tomorrow Never Dies, Sex and the City, Miami Vice and Rush Hour 3, to mention a few. The Ghainaian born designer still is well connected to his country of birth and African roots. A hard working man deserves to look and feel good, and most importantly what he wears should classify his style and taste.

OH COLOUR! OH COLOUR!

OH COLOUR! OH COLOUR!

Oh colour! Oh colour! why take thou for a fool.
Colour you are to blame for thee mess we come across in thee streets
Oh colour! Oh colour! you have crooked fashion from it's true element and spirit
Colour thou on thee street is brutally deceived by thou relentless power
Oh colour! Oh colour you should be stoned and left to die a painfull death
Colour yesterday's youth wore you properly and today's youth wears you unproperly.

Colour you shall lose power and Fashion shall gain power
Colour you play thee that claims to know fashion
Colour! Colour! Colour! thou time is up
Colour! Thee mass shall see through thou lies and thee mass shall embrace Fashion.

NB!!! As much as colour plays a role in fashion and style lets not crook fashion from its true being and lets refuse to be deceived by colour... wearing a Blue t-shirt, Green jeans, Orange sneakers and a red cap is a BIG NO! NO!
