TECH BITES: Yahoo Appoint Mayer As New Captain Of Ship

Long serving Executive at Google Marissa Mayer has been trusted by Yahoo the struggling technology firm to bring back the former glory days. The Stanford University graduate will surely have her work cut out to turn Yahoo's fortunes around. Marissa was one of those brains responsible for the look and feel of some of the search engines products.

Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20 and was the company's first female engineer.During her 13 years with the company, she was an engineer, designer, product manager, and executive. She also oversaw the layout of Google's famous, unadorned search homepage. In her final years with Google, she was Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services and, before that, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience.

Yahoo! A pioneering Internet company that helped shape the industry in the 1990s, is trying to remain relevant after failing to adapt to changing innovations like sophisticated search technology and social media tools. As Google and Facebook have emerged as Web giants, Yahoo has struggled to create a distinct strategy, even though its audience remains among the largest on the Internet. Now, the company is moving to lay off thousands of employees, in the face of slumping profits and a lackluster stock.

Lets hope Mayer can stop the ship from sinking!!!
