Gather the girls and make it a night out to remember…

Money, power, great jazz music and the glamorous high society of New York City in the 1920s is brought to life on the big screen in a fabulous new celluloid adaption of F Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel. With Big stars, fantastic costumes and a funky soundtrack, The Great Gatsby is one movie you have to see this year.
This May, Ster-Kinekor’s‘Girlfriends Getaway’ presents a special screening of this highly-anticipated romantic drama. Gather the girls and treat yourselves to this fabulous Girlfriends’ Getaway event. Taking place at selected Ster-Kinekor cinemas on Wednesday 22nd May, dress up in vintage style and re-live The Great Gatsby lifestyle – prizes up for grabs for the best dressed.

The Great Gatsbyis the latest 3D adaptation of this much-loved, romantic classic by F Scott Fitzgerald, directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) and starring Leonardo diCaprio as Jay Gatsby. The beautifully designed, elegant and opulent ‘20s-style costumes and jewellery that feature so prominently in the production and will have you drooling with desire, are the work of two-time Academy Award winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin (Moulin Rouge).

The narrating character in the story, Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), is an aspiring writer who moves from the Midwest to a buzzing 1920s New York City in an era of prosperity that was accompanied by loosening morals, bootlegging, jazz and razzle-dazzle parties.

Chasing his own American dream, Nick finds himself living next door to a mysterious, party-throwing millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her boorish and philandering yet blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Nick is gradually drawn into the captivating and alluring world of this group of the super-affluent, including their illusions, loves and deceit.

As Nick bears witness to the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, whilst holding a mirror to the struggles of our modern times.

The original soundtrack features music from award-wing artists such as Jay-Z who collaborated on the soundtrack with director Luhrmann and was tasked with giving the 1920s film a modern twist by co-writing the original music score. Other voices include those of Beyonce, Fergie and
